Twas the day before Christmas...

Otherwise known as the Merry Birthday of my darling hubs. Today we are celebrating his 31st birthday. He hates being featured on the blog but has to endure a post on his birthday at least!

I'll have to keep it quick so I don't get in too much trouble later... So Merry Birthday to my wonderful husband. Thanks for being such a great dad to our kids and a loving and respectful husband. We love you so much!

It belongs to him...

When we venture out in public as a foursome there is one given: we will split off into twosomes, Jordy & Dad, Dill & Mom. It works for us. Mainly because Dill comes with his own special requirements that Dad isn't necessarily able no willing to provide.

Lately I have been noticing a trend though. One where Jordan doesn't even seem to mind not sitting next to Mom. The same Jordan who spend the first 3 years of his life basically attached to my hip, his fingers twisted into my hair. He's moved on...

Never was this more apparent than tonight when my brave little boy came to me with eyes stretched open wide trying to keep the flood of tears at bay and told me "I haven't had a long enough weekend with Daddy" and before he could choke out "and now he has to go to work" the floods came. My poor baby. The worst part was feeling so helpless as the only thing that he wanted was his Daddy and that was the one thing I couldn't provide.

Promises were made (Blair to return and Jordy not to cry) and life as we have begun to know it (us alone) began again. I tried to lessen the blow with Halloween decorating and some baking. It seems to have done the trick as he is now fast asleep in his Daddy's place.

Letters to Daddy: August Edition...

The day that Dillon has been waiting for has finally come! He is spending the night at Bama Hunt's house! Daddy you should have seen him swimming. He "kick, kick, kicked" his little legs like crazy all the way across the pool. His face was scrunched in determination...imagine his right eyebrow at a severe angle, with his lips to match.
He also helped Bama by cleaning the leaves out of the pool. He's a helper that boy.

Jordan had fun with Aunt Gill. First they attacked Noah with their elephant impression (spitting water through a noodle) then they attacked each other all during our volleyball game. He took his floaties off and did a back stroke all through the pool. He even jumped from the side and held his nose closed. He was really proud of himself.

We sure miss you!

In the canyon...

I am missing the hubs...

While I have grown unfortunately accustomed to his working away for the week it still never gets any easier. This week has been especially difficult due to his lack of cell phone service. He has also been putting in 12-15 hour days which makes him a little less than thrilled to chat for long when he gets back to the hotel.

Blair is staying in Chinle, AZ. The only good thing in Chinle is this:

The Canyon de Chelly (photograph by the master Ansel Adams).

Not that he is getting to see it or anything. At least he has easy access to his beloved Strawberry Crush (inside Hunt family joke here).

Tomorrow he will be home...I hope!

Daysleeper...

Monday night on the road just outside of Quartzsite I awoke to the haunting refrain of R.E.M's song Daysleeper. I immedietly thought of Blair. And then my Dad.

I'm the screen, the blinding light
I'm the screen, I work at night

I see today with a newsprint fray
My night is colored headache grey
Don't wake me with so much
Daysleeper

My good husband was driving alone with his IPOD while his lovies slept through their carsickness. He's always so good that way. It's give and take that makes our marriage work. He drives us while we sleep and I stay up with two little boys that don't want to go to bed after such a long slumber through the desert.

I've heard the wives tale of men marrying women like their mother. But the longer we are married the more similarities I see between Blair and my Dad. Both could talk endlessly about sports, baseball in particular. Both like children, and show it through roughhousing. Both love music. Both sleep all day and work at night. Daysleepers...

I don't envy...

A single mother.

Nothing has made that more apparent than the last few weeks of Blair working out of town. In comparison to other commuting husbands I'm sure the distance from Buckeye to Tucson is laughable. When I am at work and have shortened the distance between him and I by another hour or so it is even more laughable. Except it's not...

Absence makes the heart grow fonder. We've all heard the phrase before. Did I always believe it? I doubt that I have. But now I do... When he is home life is in a word: easier.

How I love that Daddy surprised our boys with a morning movie (Ice Age) and lunch of their choice (Panda Express) today. I love even more that I was not required to make any decisions at all. It's nice to sit back and hand the reins over to my partner.

There is an easiness about sitting in bed while he watches ESPN and I catch up on all things internet. An easiness that is not found here when he is gone.

Today I am happy to have all my boys under one roof. The way it is supposed to be. It feels nice.
